Drasztikus lépésre szánta el magát az Európai Bizottság, bojkottra szólított fel Magyarország ellen
Az Európai Unió biztosai bojkottálják a soros elnökség magyarországi eseményeit, sőt, augusztusban saját brüsszeli találkozót szerveznek.
Az uniós vezetők elítélték Orbán Viktor békemisszióját, mondván, az Európai Unió soros elnökeként erre nem volt felhatalmazása.
Az Európai Bizottság arra kérte biztosait, hogy az EU Tanácsának magyar elnöksége alatt ne vegyenek részt informális miniszteri találkozókon − közölte három uniós tisztviselő a Politico-val.
Azzal, hogy a Bizottság ehelyett köztisztviselőket küld a találkozókra, azt szeretné üzenni Budapestnek, hogy elfogadhatatlan az uniós elnökség könnyelmű kihasználása − tette hozzá az egyik tisztviselő.
Magyarország júniusban vette át Belgiumtól az EU soros elnökségét.
Azóta Orbán Viktor miniszterelnök önjelölt
„békemissziót” indított Kijevbe, Moszkvába, Pekingbe és Washingtonba, és „felhatalmazás nélkül azt állította, hogy az Európai Uniót képviseli”

A Tanács jogi szolgálata közölte a nagykövetekkel, hogy ez sérti az uniós szerződéseket, az uniós vezetők pedig felháborodtak a magyar soros elnökségen.
A budapesti intézkedések nyilvános elítélésén túlmenően azonban eddig nem sokat tettek az ügyben.
Egyik válaszuk most az, hogy miniszterek helyett alacsonyabb rangú köztisztviselőket küldenek a Magyarország által Budapesten szervezett informális miniszteri találkozókra.
A külügyminiszterek például úgy készülnek, hogy augusztusban saját külügyi csúcstalálkozót szerveznek, ahelyett, hogy Budapestre utaznának Orbán Viktor miniszterelnök rendezvényére.
Most az Európai Bizottság is hasonló utat készül követni.
Eric Mamer, az Európai Bizottság vezető szóvivője a Politico-nak megerősítette a döntést, miszerint csak magas rangú köztisztviselőket küldenek Magyarországra.
