Augusztus elejéig 1385 külföldi embercsempészt engedtek ki a magyar börtönökből. Közülük mostanáig hat embert fogtak el, mert megszegték a reintegrációs őrizetről szóló rendeletben foglalt szabályokat. Valakit ismét bűncselekményen kaptak, más nem hagyta el az ország területét a megadott 72 órán belül.
Többen vannak börtönben, mint amennyi hely van
Az embercsempészek szabadon bocsátását a kormány azzal magyarázta korábban, hogy ellátásuk éves szinten több milliárd forintos költségekkel terheli a büntetés-végrehajtási szervezetet.
Rétvári Bence arról beszélt, egy elítélt embercsempész átlagosan csaknem 5 millió forintjába kerül a magyar adófizetőknek.
A Belügyminisztérium parlamenti államtitkára azt is elmagyarázta, „Magyarországnak azért kellett meghoznia ezt a döntést az embercsempészekkel kapcsolatban, mert Brüsszel nem járul hozzá a határvédelem költségeihez, viszont megbünteti hazánkat, ha túlzsúfoltak a börtönök.”
